Janice Dawson-Threat, Ph.D.
Rev. Janice Threat moved to Columbia from Chicago, IL with her family in 1995. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from the University of Iowa two years prior in 1993 and has focused much of her work on community building and educational programs for youth.
Since coming to Columbia, Janice has partnered with and served in multiple administrative roles for large community organizations including the United Way. In 2000, she founded For His Glory along with her late husband, Rev. Wesley G. Threat. For His Glory was founded as a faith based ministry centered on serving children and their families. For His Glory was later established as FHG, Inc. in 2005 when it became a 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit organization. Over the years, Janice and her team have been able to serve hundreds of children and their families through its programs. The organization was later re-established in 2017 as Grade A Plus, Inc. when it was restructured and expanded to begin working with social workers and government agencies. Janice currently serves as Executive Director and CEO of Grade A Plus. Inc. which partners with ACCP to provide enrichment programs to Columbia youth.
Janice was introduced to Ms. Almeta in 2001 while she served as Director of Caring Communities in Columbia. Janice immediately fell in love with Almeta's gentle and sweet nature. She was always welcomed with a memorable smile and she notes that memory as her inspiration for joining ACCP in 2013 as a way to continue Almeta's legacy of caring and giving to others.
